ARTIST OF THE MONTH
Kyra D

Kyra is a New Zealand artist currently living in Brighton. Her paintings take influence from a melting pot of styles; iconic images of Gothic and Renaissance art, a suggestion of Cubist ideas and simple, rich textured landscapes of New Zealand artists. Her work has a slightly macabre feel; child-like imagery in dark shadowy space contrasted with metallic finish. Subjects waver between still life, landscape and symbolic portraiture.

Kyra studied at the University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada and more recently at Arte Sotto un Tetto in Florence, Italy. She has several exhibitions in her native NZ catering to both corporate and private collectors and has been commissioned frequently by a variety of clients; she completed a collection of ten pieces for Red Bull NZ in 1998. Her most recent projects have included works featuring in a short film “Inside Looking Out”. Soon to be released in Europe and a showing of NZ inspired landscapes at The Duke of York’s cinema in Brighton earlier this year.
